September is National Preparedness Month, an annual observance to remind all Americans how important it is for individuals, families and communities to be prepared for disasters and emergencies that can happen at any time.

National Preparedness Month: Prepare to ProtectHere at Carolina, Campus Safety provides safety and emergency planning services for students, faculty, staff and visitors. From Alert Carolina to UNC Police to Carolina Ready, and more—these departments and programs provide extensive resources to keep Tar Heels prepared and safe.

Darrell Jeter, director for Emergency Management and Planning at Carolina, said it’s important for the campus community to take advantage of the resources that they provide, including the recently released Carolina Ready Safety App.

“Our goal is to ensure that we have a campus environment that is safe for students to learn, for employees to work, and for visitors to enjoy. Being informed and being prepared is our mantra. We want to ensure that our campus community knows what can happen, and if it happens, what they should do, and how they’ll be notified.”
