The week of March 6-12 is Severe Weather Preparedness Week in North Carolina. The UNC-Chapel Hill Emergency Management and Planning department encourages the campus community to join this statewide severe weather safety campaign by applying the three keys to severe weather safety:

  • Know your risk
  • Pledge to prepare and take action
  • Be an example

Daily public information statements on various severe weather topics will be posted on the UNC Emergency Management and Planning website.

The annual statewide tornado drill will be conducted on Wednesday, March 9, at 9:30 a.m. Though participation is voluntary, this is a great opportunity to review emergency procedures for your building.

“As we approach what is typically the more active part of the year for severe weather, now is the time to educate yourself and prepare,” says Darrell Jeter, director of emergency management and planning at UNC-Chapel Hill. “Each of us needs to have a means to be alerted and know what actions to take when events occur. Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to register for Alert Carolina emergency text notifications if you haven’t already. The time to prepare is now.”
