Travel and Study Abroad Insurance Program

Coverage must be specifically requested, either individually or by departmental travel liaisons, and uploaded by Risk Management. “Blanket” coverage does not apply for either program.

GeoBlue-BT: This is business travel coverage for faculty and staff who are traveling for research, conferences, speaking engagements, and any other UNC travel not including student-led groups/programs.
GeoBlue-Member Guide: This is for students and their faculty-led advisers.

The GeoBlue coverage is an accident and sickness policy which includes medical evacuation and repatriation of remains coverage along with some political, security and natural disaster evacuation coverage.

It is primary coverage with a $0 deductible and pre-existing conditions are included, subject to the policy terms and conditions. It does not include coverage for trip cancellation or lost baggage as it is strictly a health policy.

The GeoBlue Global Health team is available 24/7 for any medical assistance (globalhealth@geo-blue.com or 610-254-8771 – collect calls are accepted).

Once the coverage is uploaded, then GeoBlue will send a “Welcome Email” to the participant with instructions for registering and printing their own ID card. The ID card is required for any medical assistance while abroad as each participant is assigned an unique certificate number. This card also includes numbers for Customer Service and Global Health.
