The week of March 3-9 is Severe Weather Preparedness Week in North Carolina. With warmer weather quickly approaching, now is the time to prepare for the severe weather season.

UNC-Chapel Hill Emergency Management and Planning (EMP) encourages the campus community to join this statewide severe weather safety campaign to minimize the chances of injuries and fatalities caused by severe weather.

Daily public information statements on various severe weather topics will be shared on the Emergency Management and Planning website.

The annual statewide tornado drill will be conducted on Wednesday, March 6, at 9:30 a.m. Though participation is voluntary, this is a great opportunity to review emergency procedures for your building.

“As we head into severe weather season, it’s important to be informed to better prepare yourself for unexpected emergencies,” says EMP Director Darrell Jeter. “The department encourages students, faculty and staff to sign up for the Carolina Ready app to receive Alert notifications in the event of an emergency. Preparation is key, and there’s no better time to start than now,”
